Concert Music .Reflection I'm a little sad that I will have to play second clarinet. I really would like to improve playing the higher scales, and playing second will hinder that. I understand why I have to do it though, and I'll just concentrate on improving my tone and balance while I play instead. Overall I'm pretty happy with the music I received, and I loved the way it sounded as we listened to it.
Rejoice the Season For this song I am playing first clarinet, and it looks pretty fun. At first glance, all the high Gs and As look intimidating, but at a closer glance, I realized that the song mostly repeats. Measures 24-36 might prove to be more challenging. I want to know what Ob. cue on measure 80 means. How fast do you play measure 12-23, and the identical measures. 1st playing I got really lost when I first played this. Measures 12-23 are way faster than I thought, and it had us scrambling to keep up. I liked measures 73-79 is mainly clarinets and it sounds really pretty. I love the clarinet solo parts, because they are fun to play and sound really haunted. I think this song definitely needs work, but it will be really fun to play.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas I play second clarinet, and it looks really simple. Mostly I play in the key of C with a few accidentals thrown in. The notes are all lower, and the hardest part will probably be 22-28, because of the counting, and 31-53, because of the eighth notes and accidentals. I need to take another look at what C# is. 1st playing I had a really fun time playing this song, because Meghan and I are both second clarinets on it. We thought it was pretty funny, because it's so easy and could play it fine. There were a few tempo problems, because we played too fast for the second trumpets, but we smoothed that out pretty quickly. At one point Ms. Chase looked at Meghan and I, to give us note fingerings, realized it was us, and turned right back around.
Once in Royal David's City This song looks fun, and I get to play first clarinet again. It has a lot of eighth note ties, and that will help me to improve my fingering (one of my goals). This song also has a key signature change: from F to G to C. Another tricky thing about this piece is that it has tempo changes, and I don't know how to count 2/4 time. 1st playing
Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24 This song is also first clarinet, and looks fun. Measures 1-10 are all tied together with ties, and we'll have to find places to breathe. We get pretty high in measures 47-54, and all of the different eight notes look really fun to play. At first I was given this song in second clarinet, but now that I have it in first, I am really happy. Second clarinet looked way too easy and I was a little disappointed when I first got it. We stay in the key of C the whole time, but there are a few accidentals thrown in, especially in our run in 51-54. I want to know when to breathe in the first 10 measures. 1st playing This song was pretty rough at parts, but I did better than I thought I would.
